What Is MMA?

Mixed Martial Arts is the concept of combining several different styles of fighting into one all-encompassing system of combat.  in the 7th century BC, Pankration was no-holds-barred fighting competition in the Ancient Olympucs. MAny parts of the world have tried and tested various hand -to-hand techniques in search of the most effective.

In 1970, Bruce LEe exploded on the martial Arts scene with his JEET KUNE DO style, a blending of Chinese kung-fu, boxing, fencing and grappling. some consider him the founder of mixed martial arts.

in the early 1990's, the gracie family (the creators of brazilian jiu-jitsu), begain the Ultimate fighting Championship to prove their school's supremecy over other martial arts styles.  over the years, techniques from wrestling, jiu-jitsu, muay thai (a style of kickboxing originating from thailand) and other styles have fused together to create what we now call MMA.

Names like Conor macgregor, don frye, ken shamrock, jon jones, george st. pierre, and others have honed mma over the past 30 years. mma is now its own martial arts style, no longer a combination but a system with its own rules, techniques, and strategies. using small four-ounce gloves, and an octogon-shaped cage as a ring, mma has evolved into the most popular and fastest growing sport today

Why should I learn mma?

since its inception, mixed martial arts has continued to refine itself. New techniques rise, dominate, and are overcome regularly. This process has made mma into the most effective system of hand-to-hand combat known to man. Its taught to service members, police, and security accross the world. one could commit to one of the other popular styles, jiu jitsu, muay thai, boxing, or wrestling, only to find that their technique has gaps that the mma practitioner has trained to exploit.

the advantage of training purely in the mma ruleset, is that all sporting attacks and defenses are accounted for.  one's striking techniques takes account for the possibility for a grapple, and visa-versa. one learns to protect from multiple situitons and trains to defend and protect from disadvantagous and advantageous positions.

it is this versatility and flexability that makes mma the superior system of self-defense. gain confidence and piece-of-mind knowing you are prepared for anything.

What if I don't want to fight?

Most people don't! the sad truth is, victimizers know this and capitolize on it. Practicing MMA develops functional strength, improved cardiovascular health and flexability. Beyond this, the skills are practical and effective.
